A 3-week exploration of mindfulness & meditation

Mondays
September 14, 21 & 28
6:00pm-7:15pm
We know mindfulness and meditation can help us feel more balanced, calm, centered, and better equipped to navigate the challenges of everyday life. Mental health professionals, stress-management experts, neuroscientists, and practitioners of ancient contemplative traditions continue to explore and affirm the benefits of these practices.
And yet… actually meditating can be hard. Really hard. Sitting down, getting quiet, and noticing what’s happening in our minds is hardly as peaceful as it sounds.
This three-week series invites us to explore both the theory and practice of meditation. Together, we’ll explore the meditative model of mind, what neuroscience is teaching us about mindfulness and meditation, and ancient practices that are increasingly supported by modern research. We’ll also look at how the yoga tradition understands mindfulness and meditation, as well as, the distinction between the two.
Each session will include time for lecture, discussion, reflection, and, most importantly, practice. We’ll meditate together and explore simple, realistic techniques that you can take home and incorporate into your everyday life.
You don’t need to be “good” at meditation. You don’t need a perfectly quiet mind. You simply need a willingness to pause, become curious, and practice being here.
Three weeks. Ancient wisdom. Modern science. Real-life practice.
Come explore what happens when we move beyond the pose.
